Your New Year’s resolution for 2021 is one that you’ll actually keep: making clean beauty makeup swaps! Now is the time to clean up your makeup routine once and for all.
It’s important for our health to reduce toxins as much as possible. Making better choices with our makeup is just one simple way we can reduce our chemical load.
Once upon a time, we had very few options for non toxic makeup, and the ones we did have didn’t perform very well. But the times they are a-changin’ and now there is a lot of toxic free makeup that actually works. So really, there’s no excuse NOT to make these clean beauty makeup swaps in 2021!
But remember that you don’t have to change everything all at once! When you run out of what you’re currently using, purchase one of these non toxic products. Eventually you’ll have a full makeup bag of safe items.

Clean Beauty Makeup Swaps
1. Foundation (Liquid, Cream, Pressed, Powder)

Liquid – For a matte finish, you must try NU Evolution’s Complete Coverage Foundation. For something between a satin and semi-matte finish, pick up Crunchi’s Beautifully Flawless Foundation. For a dewy finish, try Kosas’s Tinted Face Oil.
Cream – If you prefer a cream foundation, check out Au Naturale’s Zero Gravity C2P Foundation.
Pressed – Clove + Hallow Pressed Mineral Foundation is lightweight but still provides great coverage.
Powder – And for a loose powder foundation, try Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Foundation.
2. Tinted SPF

Suntegrity’s 5 in 1 Moisturizing Face Sunscreen is wonderful, but oily skin beware: it is very, very dewy.
3. Concealer

Clove + Hallow’s Conceal + Correct provides medium to full coverage and doesn’t cake.
4. Color Corrector

Fitglow Beauty’s Correct + comes in two shades to combat dark circles and spots and make eyes look brighter.
5. Setting Powder

100% Pure’s Bamboo Blur Powder is made of bamboo silica.
6. Contour

Fitglow Beauty’s Lumi Firm in Sculpt is a natural cream contour.
7 + 8. Blush + Bronzer

For powder blush and bronzer, I love my Fitglow Beauty Makeup Palette in Sunny Days. The colors are gorgeous and so pigmented.
For cream products, grab one (or a couple) of Fitglow Beauty’s Lumi Firm Lip + Cheek pots.
9. Highlighter

Continuing with Fitglow Beauty (can you tell I love this brand?), try the Lumi Firm highlighter.
10. Eyeshadow

Aether Beauty has eyeshadow palettes with a variety of gorgeous colors.
11. Eyebrows (Pencil, Pomade, Gel)

Pencil – I love Plume’s brow pencil, except that I went through it very quickly. You can, however, order refills on Plume’s website and save some money! In addition to adding color, Plume’s pencil and pomade help your brows grow, too. (This is for all of us who spent the 90s over-plucking our brows!)
Pomade – Check out Plume’s pomade for eyebrows if you don’t want a pencil.
Gel – I love the natural look I get from W3LL PEOPLE’s Expressionist Brow Gel. And you can buy this on Amazon and at Target!
12. Eyeliner (Cream, Liquid)

Cream – If you have oily eyelids like me, you need Antonym’s eye pencil.
Liquid – Fitglow Beauty’s Lash Boost Eyeliner works like a lash serum to help improve your lashes.
13. Mascara

I love, love, love Fitglow Beauty’s Good Lash Mascara. It really gives my lashes some oomph, and it stays on all day while washing off easily at night. It also contains botanical extracts and plant protein to promote lash health and growth.
14. Lip Balm

Day – Dr. Bronner’s peppermint lip balm is a great alternative to Burt’s Bees lip balm.
Night – The night lip serum from Fitglow Beauty is for the woman who is always applying lip balm throughout the day. It’s applied at night to soften, hydrate, and restore the lips’ moisture barrier.
15. Lip color (Lip Gloss, Lipstick)

Lip gloss – Here’s Fitglow Beauty again! In addition to adding color, the lip colour serum hydrates and plumps the lips. (You can also buy the serums in multi-packs and save money!)
Lipstick – Check out all of Axiology’s lipstick shades to find the one for you!
16. Primer

100% Pure has a mattifying primer for you oily girls like me and a luminous primer for the ladies who want a little glow.
17. Brushes

What’s makeup without makeup brushes? I have the Luxie Face Essential Brush Set in Rose Gold, but you can also purchase other sets and individual brushes. You can find these on Amazon, at Nordstrom, and on Luxie’s website.
18. Setting Spray

While not specifically a setting spray, True Botanical’s Nutrient Mist can also be used to set makeup.
19. Blotting Papers

Use 100 Percent Pure’s Oil Blotting Sheets for quick touch ups throughout the day.
20. Makeup Remover

One Love Organics’s Botanical B Enzyme Cleansing Oil + Makeup Remover is the real deal.
Use these organic cotton reusable facial rounds from Marley’s Monsters with your makeup remover. Use the code KARENH10 to save 10 percent on the facial rounds at Earth Hero!
21. Nail Polish

Check out all the colors in this 8-free nail polish line from essie expressie!
