I used to be an incredibly inconsistent flosser, but that changed when I found Risewell floss. Find out why this Teflon-free floss is one of my can’t-live-without products.
I almost didn’t buy Risewell’s floss.
I had seen reviews for their toothpaste all over Instagram, so when they had their Black Friday sale last year, I decided to order the toothpaste and the mouthwash. But I hadn’t seen any Risewell reviews for the floss, so I didn’t know if it was worth spending $8 on a small pack of dental floss.
But I ultimately added it to my cart because my four-year-old had the start of a small cavity between his teeth and I was trying to compensate for my mom guilt. (Plus, I’m a sucker for free shipping and I needed to buy one more item to get it.)
But I’m so happy I decided to try it.
My kids and I have been using Risewell floss for five months, and I never want to be without it.
In this blog post, I’ll discuss the pros and cons because while this is the best dental floss I’ve used, it’s not perfect. Hopefully I’ll answer all of your questions in this Risewell floss review!

Pros of Risewell Floss
Here are some things I love about this floss.
1. Cleans Really Well Between Teeth
I even tested it against some other floss I had leftover in my medicine cabinet to see how much better it worked. I used the other brand’s floss first, then used Risewell. Risewell’s expanding dental floss grabbed bits of food that the other floss left behind.
2. Doesn’t Break
I have some tight spots between my teeth, and I haven’t had problems with it breaking. The string spreads apart where it’s been used, but it doesn’t get stuck in my teeth.
3. Infused With Hydroxyapatite
Risewell floss is infused with hydroxyapatite, a mineral that makes up 97 percent of our teeth’s enamel. A 2019 study showed that hydroxyapatite toothpaste is as effective as fluoride toothpaste at remineralizing initial cavities and preventing demineralization.
While I couldn’t find any info about the effectiveness of hydroxyapatite in floss, I figure that it can’t hurt!
4. Doesn’t Contain PFAS
Some conventional dental flosses, like Oral-B Glide, contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, a dangerous group of chemicals linked to serious health problems. PFAS help the floss glide between your teeth.
Risewell floss does not contain PFAS, but it still slides easily between my tight teeth.
5. Doesn’t Contain Petroleum-Based Wax
Waxes also help dental flosses glide easily between your teeth, but other brands often use waxes derived from petroleum. Yuck!
Risewell’s floss is made with a vegan wax. (I reached out to the company asking what kind of vegan wax, and they responded that they use a vegan vegetable wax. But what kind of vegetable wax? Is it Candelilla wax? Why not just say exactly what kind it is? They state on their website that they’re “transparent with everything in our floss,” but they’re not with that ingredient.)
6. Doesn’t Contain Artificial Flavors
Risewell uses natural spearmint oil and stevia for flavor.
7. Safe for People of All Ages
This floss is safe for children, too! Risewell’s products are also vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, non-GMO, and cruelty-free.
Cons of Risewell Floss
Like I said earlier, this floss isn’t perfect. Here’s what I don’t like about it.
1. Not Eco-Friendly
The floss is made with polyester filament and the container is plastic, so it’s not eco-friendly.
But even though they don’t use a biodegradable filament, I think there are other changes they could make to be a little more eco-friendly. They could:
- Offer refills
- Offer a larger size floss
- Use a plastic-free container
- Use recycled materials
If a non-biodegradable dental floss is a deal breaker for you, look for flosses made from silk, bamboo, or corn. Just be aware that these options tend to break more easily than polyester or nylon.
I do have some safety concerns about sliding a petroleum-derived polyester thread between my teeth, but for me, the pros of this floss outweigh the cons. I’ve taken so many other steps to reduce my toxic load that I’m willing to risk using this floss to keep my teeth and gums healthy.
2. More Expensive Than Other Dental Floss Brands
At $8 for 30 meters of floss, it’s is more expensive than drug-store brands. However, it’s also made with better ingredients, so there’s a tradeoff. I believe the benefits outweigh the cost, and it’s only a few dollars more.
3. Not Found in Most Stores
Unfortunately, you’re not going to find this floss at Target or on Amazon. Several online retailers carry it, including Nordstrom, so it’s possible you might find it in a brick-and-mortar store.
However, the easiest way to buy it is on Risewell’s website.
Other Risewell Products
If you’re going to buy the floss, you should also grab the toothpaste and mouthwash for a complete dental care routine. We love them (but not as much as the floss).

Final Thoughts
You really should try Risewell floss to see if you like it as much as I do!
