Wondering what’s the best organic cotton underwear for women? This Knickey organic cotton underwear review discusses all the reasons why you should try this sustainable underwear brand.
This post was updated on Aug. 20, 2022.
I’m a little embarrassed at how infrequently I replace my underwear. I’m not even going to tell you the last time I bought new ones because it was *that* long ago. I’m cringing just thinking about it.
But it’s really hard to find ones that fit my body type (thicker waist, smaller hips and bottom), and there are even fewer options now that I’m trying to purchase more sustainable clothing. And finding all that at a decent price point? Talk about a challenge.
So when I found organic cotton underwear brand Knickey, I thought it was too good to be true. I looked at their website, looked some more, and then looked even more before I finally decided to try them out.
So did they live up to my expectations?! Keep reading to find out!

Why I Chose Knickey Organic Cotton Underwear
There are a lot of reasons to love Knickey! I’m really happy with my decision to purchase from them, and here’s why.
Made With Organic Cotton
Knickey underwear is made with 95 percent GOTS Certified organic cotton and 5 percent elastane (for stretch). Organic cotton is better than conventional cotton because it’s grown without harmful pesticides that can irritate our most sensitive lady parts and cause other health problems.
Gynecologists recommend cotton for underwear because it’s breathable and absorbs moisture, which helps prevent yeast infections and irritation. Synthetic materials like nylon don’t breathe and provide the moist, dark environments that bacteria and yeast love. Ew.
Sustainable Underwear and Packaging
Not only is organic cotton safer for your body, it’s also safer for the planet. Toxic pesticides can contaminate the soil, air, and water, as well as harm birds, fish, and other animals. In addition, organic farming reduces the use of water and non-renewable energy compared to conventional farming.
Knickey ships its underwear to consumers in packaging made with recycled content, post-consumer waste, and low-impact inks. The packaging is also plastic-free!
Ethical Underwear
As you may have guessed, organic cotton farming without the use of toxic pesticides is safer for the people who produce the crops, too. And Knickey uses Fair Trade certified facilities to make sure that all workers are treated fairly, which includes providing living wages and safe working conditions.
Knickey Recycling
Send Knickey a box of your old underwear to recycle and they’ll send you a free new pair with your next order! They’ve partnered with an industrial recycler to turn these used items into things like insulation and carpet padding.
Social Impact
Knickey partners with non-profit organizations to provide new, clean underwear to women in need. They donated more than 7,000 pairs in 2019.
Affordable
Knickey is one of the most affordable sustainable underwear brands that I’ve found. Each pair of Knickey underwear is $17, but you can save when you order a bundle (does not include maternity).
Inclusive Sizing
Knickey’s underwear is available in eight sizes (XXS-XXXL), which is a much wider range than many other brands. I also love that their models come in all shapes and sizes.
First Pair Guarantee
With Knickey’s First Pair Guarantee, you can try on one pair of each unique style and size of underwear from your first order and return them for any reason. Leave any duplicate pairs unopened in their original belly band packaging, and return within 30 days of purchase.
Transparency
The people at Knickey seem honest, open, and proud but also humble about their business initiatives. They share their progress on sustainability, and they disclose where they can do better. They seem to genuinely care about making a difference, and not just because it’s a good PR move.
I feel like so many companies and people preach about being transparent and authentic, but then are anything but. Maybe I’m just too cynical these days, but Knickey is a breath of fresh air.
Knickey Organic Cotton Underwear Review: The Mid-Rise Hipster
I purchased the Knickey mid-rise hipster in size medium in the color Beach Bum, which is a nude color similar to my skin tone.
Pros
Comfortable, stretchy waistband. The waistband is usually my biggest problem with underwear. Because my hips are narrow, I need some structure to keep the underwear from sliding down. But if the waistband is too tight, then I end up with a muffin top. I found the Knickey Mid-Rise Hipster to be the perfect balance of both. I still have a slight muffin top, but that’s a personal problem and not a Knickey problem.
Feels like I’m not wearing any underwear. These really are very comfortable women’s underwear, and they don’t bunch or roll down. The mid-rise hipster stays in place, and I don’t have to adjust it (ahem, pick a wedgie) when I move around. If you have a larger bottom, however, these may be a little cheeky for you.
Since the hipsters aren’t seamless, I do see visible panty lines. But I don’t really care about VPL in my old(er) age, especially not enough to wear a thong.
Comes in several flesh-colored shades for a range of skin tones. Moving forward, I will only ever buy nude underwear. I hate having to change out of dark or patterned underwear when I decide to change my outfit. I also considered another organic cotton underwear brand but they didn’t offer the style I wanted in my skin tone.
Cons
I don’t like listing any cons because I think Knickey is a great company. But there are a few things I want to point out, although I definitely don’t consider these negatives in any way.
Some colors in certain styles are often sold out. I’ve noticed that my size and color in the mid-rise hipsters have been sold out at various times. It’s a bummer, but Knickey is still a new company and it’s something that I think will get better as they continue to grow.
