It’s hard to find shampoo for oily hair, much less one that’s non toxic. In fact, it was the very first product I tried to switch to a cleaner option, and it was a big ole miserable FAIL.
When I was pregnant with my daughter seven years ago, I picked up a “natural” option at my local grocery store (which, in hindsight, probably wasn’t the first place I should have looked). It didn’t clean my hair at all. Not at all. I used it for a little bit longer, thinking that I just needed to get through a transition period, but my hair never did.
So I kind of gave up on green beauty for several years after that. But in the last couple of years, I’ve found several different brands of shampoo for oily hair that actually work.
Before I get into my favorite shampoos and conditioners, I should note that I do wash my hair every day and I do not use dry shampoo. I just feel really dirty all over my body if I don’t clean my hair. 🙂
Also, if you’re switching to non toxic shampoo for the first time, you will experience a transition period where your hair is more oily than normal. Conventional shampoos contain harsh ingredients like sulfates that strip our hair and leave it dry and dull. That’s not actually what you need when you have oily hair!
You should read my blog post, Three Tips for Switching to Natural Hair Products, so you know how best to use non toxic shampoo for oily hair.
Without further ado, here is the best shampoo for oily hair.
1. Innersense Organic Beauty
This pair is Innersense’s most gentle and lightweight shampoo and conditioner to cleanse and condition scalps and prevent oily hair. They are free of silicones, plastics and residues that weigh hair down.
Innersense’s products are also free of phthalates, ethoxylates, sulfates, silicones, 1,4 dioxane, parabens, petro compounds, propylene and butylene glycol, PEG, MEA, TEA, MIA, EDTA artificial dyes, and synthetic fragrances.
2. 100% Pure
This shampoo and conditioner set gently washes away excess oil while giving hair brilliant shine, bounce, and vibrancy.
3. True Botanicals
The shampoo uses a coconut-derived surfactant for a rich lather without stripping hair of its natural oils. The conditioner leaves hair soft and silky without weighing it down. I think the True Botanicals cleaned my hair the best of these three brands.
