I’ve tried on a lot of bathing suits in the last six years, and this is the best swimsuit for a short torso that I’ve found.
The last time I purchased a swimsuit was when I was pregnant with my son.
He’s now six years old.
That’s six long years of buying and returning swimsuits because they were way too long.
Six long years of wearing rash guards to cover my old, ill-fitting swimsuits so I can play in the water with my kids.
Six long years of feeling sad, frustrated, and self-conscious.
My new swimsuit doesn’t just fit my short torso; it’s also flattering, stylish, and a little bit sexy but still age appropriate.
It’s my unicorn swimsuit. And I think it could be yours, too.

Why Swimsuit Shopping Is So Hard
One of things that frustrates me the most about any type of clothing is that most brands assume that if you need a larger size, you must be taller.
The rise on a size 30 pair of jeans might be 1.5 inches longer than the rise on the size 25. The length of a size XL dress might be several inches longer than the XS. And I’ve noticed that the torso length on swimsuits also increases as you go up in size.
So it’s hard to find a bathing suit that fits when I need the width of a large but the length of a small.
I could’ve avoided the torso issues by purchasing a two-piece swimsuit, but I really wanted a one-piece for the comfort and coverage.
And other articles on this subject tell you what’s flattering on short torsos, but none of that matters if the suit itself is just too long.
The Best Swimsuit for a Short Torso
The best swimsuit for a short torso is Andie Swim’s The Mykonos.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I put it on. For the first time in six years, I felt beautiful in a swimsuit. I didn’t think I could feel this great in a bathing suit.
Aside from the fact that the length of the Mykonos is spot on, there are several other details that make this suit very flattering on my body. I am a straighter apple shape with broad shoulders, a thicker waist, and a flat bottom.
V-necks are one of my favorite necklines because they draw the eye inward and create a vertical line in the center of the body. This vertical line helps elongate the body, creating the illusion of length.
The bathing suit’s material is compressive and sucks in the extra weight I carry around my waist and back.
The wide straps help balance the width of my broad shoulders and back.
I carry a lot of my extra weight in my back, particularly at my waistline and bra line. The Mykonos hits higher on my back, covering some of my most self-conscious areas.
The wide waistband hits at the smallest part of my waist, creating some some definition on my otherwise undefined waist.
Other Andie Swimsuits I Tried
I plan on trying more one-piece bathing suits from Andie, so I’ll update this blog post if I find another one that fits my short torso.
Athleta has one-piece swimsuits in petite sizes extra-small to large, but I have not personally tried them. (I need to, though, because I love Athleta!) Athleta’s swimsuits tend to be more sporty, so they’re a good option for water sports.
TA3‘s swimsuits come in short lengths. I just learned about this brand from someone on TikTok, but I’ll have to try it!
Final Thoughts on the Best Swimsuit for a Short Torso
For the first time in a long time, I’m excited for all the water activities with my kids.
Instead of hanging out on the beach or sitting next to the pool, I’ll be the first one in the water.
In my unicorn swimsuit.
